Jewellery has been crafted and worn dating back between 40,000 to 75,000 years ago. Even way back then, the appearance of jewellery on somebody’s ears, nose, lip neck or wrist, was a sign of wealth or social status. The Greeks began crafting their jewellery with gems and gold only 1,400 years ago. The Greeks also liked using sea shells to make their jewellery pieces. When jewellery was first created, it was meant to ward of evil spirits and protect this wearer. In fact, jewellery was supposed to give the wearer supernatural powers.
There are five periods in history where jewellery were created and fashioned into pieces to show in public or private. These time periods included the Middle Ages where gold earrings, hair combs or hair pins, bracelets, necklaces were made for rulers and commoners; the Renaissance Age, under Napoleon Bonaparte rule, he came up with the idea of placing jewellery in pairs. This means, a woman could now wear a pair of diamond earrings, diamond rings, a diamond brooch and a diamond necklace. Amazingly, the Renaissance Age introduced costume jewellery; the Romanticism Age of jewellery began in the 18th century and had a huge influence in the Western Culture. Charles Lewis Tiffany founded Tiffany & Co. in 1837 and put the United States on the map for exquisite jewellery crafters. There are the Art Nouveau Age and the Art Deco Age of jewellery crafting.
The word wholesale means “the purchase of products sold in large quantities or on a large scale to retailers”. A lot of jewellery stores or independent jewellery sellers will purchase their jewellery at or below wholesale. For the most part, wholesale jewellery is only available for purchase at wholesale prices to businesses with pre-approved authorization to sell jewellery. Jewellery store owners have to fill out an application and be approved to sell jewellery before they can look at a wholesale jewellery companies catalogues of fine gold, silver or costume jewellery.
Before a big or small business which desires to sell jewellery, they have to contact their city government or county about applying for a business license. Some businesses have to report their earnings and pay taxes monthly, quarterly or annually. It is good to learn about this business aspect before applying and opening shop.
Once a jewellery business is in operation, the jewellery has several avenues they can check out for purchasing their jewellery at wholesale. For instance, many jewelers will attend jewellery shows or traveling jewellery shows in major cities in their state or county. If a jeweler has a vendor license, they can be show a private collection of jewellery for purchase. When a jewellery stores place their orders, it can be from orders as high as $1000 and as low as $100. Wholesale jewellery can also be purchased in foreign nations such as the Asian or European markets.
The purchase of jewellery, high end or costume, is an exciting way to express one’s love for anything gold, silver or costume. Jewellery, for the most part, is one’s outer expression of what they feel like inside. Jewellery is also a great way to accessorize or compliment one’s wardrobe.
